why

to build a lasting wardrobe for a modern urban working woman. discover the romance in magic and in bags.

– design concept

garments are 2D. you will find side seams on all of your jackets and your dresses – they are there to cut your body in half, the front and the back. on the other hand, a bag is truly 3 dimensional, a sculpture if you will. a different view is discovered on all 360 angles. that is the approach that inspires me. some might call it architectural; i just really focus on how the bag is build from the ground up. material is first; form follows function. following this line of thinking, the interior of the bag will be just as important, if not more, as the outside.

– about the leather

this Napa leather is a chrome-tanned drum-dyed top-grain leather that is soft and supple with minimal sanding and buffing to remove natural marks on the surface of the hide. chrome tanning will give it a more supple and pliable hands and does not discolour or lose shape as drastically in water as other leather such as vegetable-tanned or suede. this aniline dyed leather is soaked in a large drum to allow the dye to penetrate all the way through the hide. if the top should scratch the layer underneath will be the same color.

in the Sterling and the Seine, the leather is bonded with ultrasuede for the brightness contrasting the natural color of the leather. in other parts, real suede is used for a softer touch of the hand.
